Trainee Underwriter

This is a fabulous opportunity for someone with minimal medical underwriting experience, or just knowledge of what is involved in medical underwriting. You will be fully trained in all aspects of the role and the various product lines and will be working for one of the best employers in Financial Services. This role would be ideal if you are currently an Initial Underwriter.

The Company: Our client has been one of the most expansive companies in Financial Services over the last 3-4 years and this expansion is continuing through 2010 due to the strength of their position within a boom part of the market. They focus on the retirements sector and they are looking for experience within life, pensions or disability lines.

The Role: The Medical Underwriting team supports other areas of the business by providing correct medical evaluations for clients, to ensure they are medically compliant and competitive. The main objectives of the job are:

• Progress through the stages of the sign-off process to enable correct responses to medical referrals of increasing complexity.

• Once sign-off at each stage is achieved, you will process appropriate referrals from the Operations teams, checking and correcting medical keying, and advising on any need for additional information or clarification.

• You will evaluate medical information received from GPs in order to identify potential client discrepancies and to offer guidance to others on handling these appropriately, including advice and recommendations on the course of action to be taken where the medical information does not substantiate the mortality expectations.

• Support the other members of the underwriting team when required with assistance with training, data collection and research requirements.

• Assist in the testing and implementation of changes to the underwriting system, process and procedures.

Skills / Experience Required: You should possess a basic understanding of underwriting, be it within life, disability or pensions underwriting. Excellent communication and problem analysis are important, as are strong numeracy, literacy and computer literacy skills.

Additional Information: This company offer superb training and long term prospects. You will receive a basic salary of £23,000 and bonus of c.£2,000. The additional pension/life/health benefits will add a further c.£2,000 to your package.
