Assistant Development Underwriter
A rare opportunity for someone at Senior Underwriter level, to move away from pure underwriting and be set on a path to that of Development Underwriter.
The Company: Our client is one of the industries most innovative companies, a firm that is pushing forward level's of customer service. They are well liked by financial advisers, have produced excellent financial results, even through the recession and are expanding at an impressive rate. From a product perspective, most of their focus relates to Term Assurance, Critical Illness and Income Protection.
The Role: The main focus of the position is to assist with the continuous improvement of the underwriting philosophy and procedures within the company. Within that, you will:
* Suggest enhancements to underwriting procedures.
* Document procedures and produce guides for underwriters and distributors as necessary.
* Continuously monitor industry best practice and recommend changes to procedures to ensure that the company remains innovative and forward thinking.
* Complete ad hoc reviews of processes, advisers or case types where potential problems are identified.
* Work closely with other areas of the company (for example Claims, Actuarial, Administration) to develop a thorough understanding of the business and contribute to "best practice" overall.
* Assist with the delivery of internal projects and training for the operational underwriters.
* Visit distributors with the Development Underwriters to enhance their understanding of our clients underwriting processes.
* Underwrite Life, Critical illness, TPD, IP and MPPI when required within an agreed level of authority and within service standards.

You must enjoy working in a changing environment, have an open and enquiring mind and be prepared to contribute and develop new ideas and processes. A major challenge of the job is to develop the expert underwriting system rules to provide a fair and balanced underwriting decision.
Skills & Experience Required: You should be an expert in the field of Underwriting and demonstrate competence in both the breadth and depth of their technical knowledge and expertise. You should have at least 5 years experience of underwriting substandard lives across all product lines and possess experience of guiding and supporting others in the field of Underwriting. Well developed communication skills are essential, as is numerical ability, the ability to build relationships and manage your workload and prioritise tasks.
