The Company: A major, new operation that focuses on the life and protection markets in the UK, requires a Senior Underwriter with at least 10 years medical underwriting experience. The bonus for our client would be to find someone who has already had exposure to some of the elements involved in development underwriting and previous supervisory experience, but this is not essential.
The Role: The position is split, in terms of location, between London and Surrey, so you should be able to get to both locations fairly easily. This is a very exciting opportunity, the type of opening that does not come around very often, especially given the potential within the role and company from a career development and recognition perspective. The overall brief is to assist with the continuous improvement of the underwriting philosophy and procedures of the company. The product range mainly includes Critical Illness and Income Protection.
The main responsibilities include:
* Assist with the development of underwriting philosophy and procedures
* Monitor industry best practice and recommend changes to company procedures to ensure that our client remains innovative and forward thinking.
* Audit the new business process using agreed procedures and within set timescales.
* Provide training, coaching, support and advice to other underwriters.
* Provide leadership and expertise with the delivery of internal projects.
Our client is a relatively new organisation and so processes and procedures need to be defined and will constantly evolve and change. A major challenge of the job is to develop expert underwriting system rules which provide a fair and balanced underwriting decision. You will be in daily contact with customers, intermediaries, other underwriters and reassurers.
